Walley lets you transfer Canton Network digital assets directly to other party identities on the ledger. Because all transfers are on-ledger and non-custodial, you bear full responsibility for verifying the details of every transaction before you confirm it. This guide walks you through how to send assets, how to share your receiving details, and how to navigate approval flows.
On-ledger transactions on the Canton Network are irreversible. Once you submit a transfer, it cannot be cancelled, reversed, or recovered — even if sent to the wrong party or for the wrong amount. Always double-check every field on the confirmation screen before signing.

Sending Assets

To send assets to another Canton Network participant, follow these steps:
1

Open the Send screen

From the dashboard, select Send. Walley displays a list of assets available in your holdings.
2

Select an asset

Choose the asset you want to send from the dropdown or asset list. The available balance for that asset appears beneath the selector.
3

Enter the recipient's party

In the Recipient field, enter the recipient’s full Party Hint (their walley- prefixed identifier) or their canonical party ID. Verify this value carefully — an incorrect party address will result in an irreversible misdirected transfer.
4

Enter the amount

Type the amount you want to send. Walley displays your available balance inline. You cannot send more than your current on-ledger balance.
5

Review the transaction summary

Before submitting, Walley presents a full summary showing:
  • Asset: the asset type and contract details
  • Recipient: the resolved party identity
  • Amount: the exact value to be transferred
  • Fees (if applicable): any ledger fees associated with the transaction
Confirm every field matches your intent.
6

Sign and submit

Select Confirm & Send to sign the transaction with your party credentials and submit it to the Canton Network ledger. Walley displays a confirmation once the transaction is accepted by the ledger.
After submitting, the transaction appears in your Activity feed. Ledger finalization may take a short time — refresh the dashboard to see your updated balance once the transfer is confirmed.

Reviewing Transactions Before Signing

Every send operation presents a mandatory review screen. Do not skip or rush through it. Before selecting Confirm & Send, verify all of the following:
  • Counterparty: The recipient’s Party Hint or party ID matches exactly who you intend to pay.
  • Amount: The numeric value and asset denomination are correct.
  • Asset: You are sending the right asset type — Canton Network supports multiple distinct asset types that may look similar.
If you are unsure about a recipient’s party identity, ask them to confirm their Party Hint in a separate, trusted communication channel before proceeding.

Receiving Assets

To receive assets from another Canton Network participant, share your Party Hint with the sender. You do not need to initiate anything in Walley — the sender submits the transfer on their end, and the asset appears in your dashboard once the ledger finalizes it.

Finding Your Party Hint

1

Go to Settings

Select Settings from the navigation menu.
2

Open the Identity section

Navigate to Identity. Your Party Hint appears in the format walley-<your-identifier>.
3

Copy and share

Select Copy next to your Party Hint and send it to the payer through a trusted channel (e.g., secure messaging or email). Verify the payer uses the exact string — even a small typo results in a failed or misdirected transfer.
Your Party Hint is a human-readable alias for your full party ID. Senders can use either, but the Party Hint is easier to share and verify visually.

Transfer Approval Flows

If you have configured transfer pre-approval rules in your Walley settings, certain incoming or outgoing transfers may execute automatically based on those rules without requiring you to manually approve each one.
When pre-approval is configured, Walley evaluates each incoming transfer request against your defined rules. If a transfer matches an approved rule (e.g., from a trusted counterparty or within a specified amount threshold), it proceeds automatically.Transfers that fall outside your pre-approval rules still require manual review and confirmation in the Walley interface.
Pre-approval rules allow transactions to execute without per-transaction confirmation. Review your pre-approval settings regularly to ensure they reflect your current intent. See Automation & Approvals for full configuration details.
